Chemical Safety in the Workplace
This introductory course provides information on the identification and risk assessment of chemicals in the workplace. The course is aimed at employers and employees including supervisors and health and safety representatives.
Course duration: 30 minutes
Learning outcomes:
On successful completion of this course you should be able to:
• Identify and differentiate between hazardous/ non-hazardous chemicals
• Create an inventory of chemicals
• Find information on chemicals through the use of labels and SDSs
• Examine risk and determine possible risk reduction measures using the hierarchy of controlCPD points: Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points are available from Construction Industry Registry Ireland (CIRI) for this course. One hour of learning will contribute to one CIRI CPD point. Any construction company wishing to avail of the CIRI CPD points must record them as learning outcomes on their own training matrix which then needs to be presented annually to CIRI at the point of renewal.

Chemical Safety in the Workplace – Level 2
This course follows on from the ‘Chemical Safety in the Workplace’ introductory course. The course is Level 2 and covers the following key topics:
• Understanding Hazard Information
• Labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDSs)

• Recognise hazard pictograms
• Understand hazard label information
• Use Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) to find information on hazards and protective measure

Asbestos Safety for Tradespeople
This course is designed for tradespeople who, during the course of their work, could potentially or unknowingly disturb asbestos containing materials (ACMs) causing asbestos fibres to be released into the air. Completion of this course does not in any way enable you to work with asbestos containing materials (ACMs).

• understand what asbestos is
• outline the health effects of exposure to asbestos
• recognise potential asbestos containing materials (ACMs) in the workplace

Chemical Agent Hazards
This course presents learners with an overview of chemicals, how people can be exposed to them in the workplace and how to assess and control exposure to them. The content is suitable across all healthcare settings and provides concise practical strategies for everyday use.

• Identify chemical agent hazards that exist in the healthcare environment
• Identify ways in which healthcare employees are exposed to chemical agents in the workplace
• Outline the steps involved in a chemical risk assessment
• Describe measures used to safeguard healthcare employees from the effects of hazardous chemicals
