Taking Care of Business
Taking Care of Business is a new wide ranging initiative being undertaken by the Health & Safety Authority to Support & Assist Small Business to deal with health and safety in their workplaces.
The primary aim of Taking Care of Business is:
“To make safety and health contribute in a manner that is tailored specifically for small business so enabling it to reduce the incidence of accidents and ill health; to motivate workers and maintain their involvement and to assist the overall success of the business.”
If you are finding it difficult to understand what your obligations are to comply with workplace health and safety in your business and in need of practical guidelines and assistance to get you started then 'Taking Care of Business' can make it simpler for you.
BeSMART.ie (Free Online Risk Assessment & Safety Statement Tool)
As part of the Taking Care of Business initiative for small business, the Authority has launched BeSMART.ie a free, easy to use, online tool for risk assessment and generation of your safety statement.
Since its launch in February 2011 feedback from registered users indicates that using BeSMART.ie results in a saving of at least 90% in both cost and time involved in undertaking risk assessments and preparing a safety statement for their workplace!
The business types where risk assessments have been developed is continually being expanded within BeSMART.ie. The most up to date list of business types are included by clicking the link below.
Construction and Agriculture
Construction and Agriculture are not covered in BeSMART at present due to the availability of a number of aids for the construction sector (e.g. SWWP Safe System of Work Plan, and SMP20 Safety Management Pack for Small Contractors with 20 or less employees) and online and paper versions of the Agricultural Code of Practice for 3 or less employees.
