How do I License a Petrol Station?
The licensing of petrol storage facilities is a matter for the relevant local authority (commonly the local Fire Department) or harbour authority.
In the event that the facility is operated by a local or harbour authority then under The Dangerous Substances Act, 1972 and Dangerous Substances (Retail and Private Petroleum Stores) the Health and Safety Authority is the licensing body.
If a local Authority refuse to issue a license then it is possible to appeal the decision to the Health and Safety Authority. Appeal submissions must be in writing setting out the claim in detail and be accompanied by a certificate from the licensing authority stating the reasons for the decision.
Appeals should be sent to: RPPS Licence Appeals, Work Place Contact Unit, Health and Safety Authority, Metropolitan Building, James Joyce Street, Dublin 1.
