PepsiCo Ireland scoops national health and safety award

 Friday 22nd October

The Health and Safety Authority today (Friday 22nd October) announced the winners of the national Good Practice Awards 2010.  PepsiCo Ireland has won the Irish leg of this European-wide competition and will now go forward to compete with a range of organisations from across Europe. Speaking in advance of European Week for Safety and Health at Work, Martin O’Halloran, Chief Executive of the Health and Safety Authority said, “I’m very pleased to announce PepsiCo Ireland as the winners of the Irish phase of this prestigious European competition.  It is encouraging that organisations like PepsiCo continue to place worker safety, health and welfare at the heart of their operations during unprecedented economic difficulties.”

He added, “I fully understand that businesses are struggling to make ends meet but cutting corners in relation to worker health and safety could lead to very serious consequences and will certainly do nothing to improve overall business success. I congratulate PepsiCo and wish them every success at the European level of the competition.”

Mr Adrian Williams of PepsiCo said, “We are delighted to accept the award and also proud to be representing Ireland in Europe. Employee safety, health and welfare is our number one priority, ensuring we achieve our safety mission that “no one gets hurt” while working for our organisation.”

The Good Practice Awards is a European-wide competition aimed at encouraging best practice in relation to employee health and safety.  The theme for this year’s award was safe maintenance.  Safe maintenance is also the focus of this year’s European Week for Safety and Health at Work taking place from October 25th to 29th.
