Codes of Practice

The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Diving) Regulations 2018 (S.I. No. 254 of 2018) are accompanied by two Codes of Practice:

  • The Code of Practice for Inland Diving and Inshore Diving, and
  • The Code of Practice for Offshore Diving.

Inland, Inshore and Offshore Diving

The majority of diving at work in Ireland tends to fall under the Code of Practice for Inland Diving and Inshore Diving. But when diving is carried out in connection with:

  • Offshore installations;
  • Pipelines and cable works; or
  • Alternative energy resources;

such diving is covered by the Code of Practice for Offshore Diving.

Diving using closed bell or saturation diving techniques, diving from dynamically positioned vessels and diving deeper than 50 metres also fall under the Code of Practice for Offshore Diving.
