HSA and ESB Networks join forces to promote electricity safety in the workplace
The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) and ESB Networks have today (November 25th) announced a new joint safety campaign to raise awareness of the electrical risks associated with working in proximity of the ESB Networks electricity network, or deliberate interference with ESB Networks infrastructure in the workplace.

Yesterday, Thursday 30th October, at Dublin Circuit Court, Judge Martin Nolan imposed a fine of €650,000 on Irish Packaging Recycling Unlimited Company for one breach of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 following a work-related fatal incident which occurred at their Recycling Plant on the 18th August 2021.

Yesterday, Thursday 17 July, at Tralee Circuit Court, Judge Ronan Munro imposed a fine of €270,000 on Colas Contracting Limited for two breaches of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005, following a work-related fatal incident which occurred during road resurfacing works on the R551 at Meelcon, Tarbert, Co. Kerry on August 11, 2020.

The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has today (Wednesday 16th July) secured (on consent of the owner) a High Court order under Section 71 of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005, resulting in the immediate prohibition of the use of a construction site located at Bridge Street, Kilcock, Co. Kildare, until certain specified measures have been taken to reduce the serious risk to the safety, health and welfare of persons at the site.

Guidelines on Hearing Checks and Audiometry in the Workplace
The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has updated the Guidelines on Hearing Checks and Audiometry in the Workplace, as required by The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007 (S.I. No. 299/2007), Chapter 1 of Part 5: Control of Noise at Work. Some key updates in the revised guidelines include updated references to ISO standards, most notably the replacement of ISO 6189:1983 with ISO 8253-1:2010. The document also features expanded sections on the health risks associated with noise exposure, including information on the interactions between noise and ototoxic substances and noise and vibration. In addition, the document highlighting the importance of daily equipment checks, controlling environmental noise, and calibration intervals.

Code of Practice: Safe Use of Industrial Trucks
This Code of Practice provides practical guidance on compliance with legislation related to the use of rider operated industrial trucks in all workplaces. It sets out the basic roles and responsibilities of those who have duties in relation to ensuring the safe operation of industrial trucks and the training of industrial truck operators. It provides a framework for managing industrial truck operations in a more holistic, safe, and sustainable way based on a Safe Systems Approach. It emphasises employers’ responsibilities to ensure their workplace are safe, their operators are competent and to provide adequate supervision.
