Fatality rate from Electricity
In Ireland, there have been 40 electrocutions or deaths from the explosive/burning effects of electricity from 2001 to the end of 2020. Of those, 25 deaths have been associated with a work activity. The remaining 15 have occurred in domestic situations or as a result of trespass, vandalism or in one case a fallen overhead power line.
Each number shown above represents a person killed due to electricity.
The actual occurrences that led to the deaths are set out in the table; Description of Elec 1996 Fatalities to 2020. This table gives a brief description of each fatal incident plus previous incidents going back to 1996.
