Health and Safety Authority welcomes lowest level of work-related fatalities since records began
Releasing provisional annual statistics for 2021 today (Friday 31st December), the Health and Safety Authority welcomed a 30% reduction in work-related fatalities. 38* people lost their lives in 2021 compared to 54 in 2020 representing the lowest figure recorded since the Authority was established over 30 years ago.

Offaly County Council fined €90,000 for breaches of health and safety legislation
Offaly County Council were handed down fines totalling €90,000 by Judge Francis Comerford at Offaly Circuit Court.

Wexford company fined €175,000 following death of employee
The case arose following an investigation by the Health and Safety Authority into an incident that occurred on April 1st 2016 that resulted in an employee, Mr Peter Byrne, sustaining fatal injuries.

Deane Public Works Limited fined €40,000 following employee drowning
The incident occurred when an employee of Deane Public Works Ltd was attempting to move a floating pontoon which was located under the bridge to prevent construction debris entering the water.

Quinn Piling Ltd fined €25,000 following fatal incident in Rossaveel Harbour
Quinn Piling Ltd pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 8(2)(a) contrary to Section 79(9)(a) of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 and was fined a total of €25,000 plus costs of €8,900

On 1st November, at the sitting of Limerick Circuit Criminal Court, Judge Meghen imposed a fine of €75,000 on Limerick City and County Council following a fatal incident at the Limerick City and County Council Machinery Yard

HSA set to launch two week nationwide inspection campaign in construction sector focusing on the dangers of working at height
The HSA will begin a construction inspection campaign on Tuesday 26th October focusing on safety when working at heights. The two week campaign will target both small and large construction sites nationwide
